The Titirei leadership programme was established to help support our young leaders to show their leadership skills in the group. This formal acknowledgement of those potential leaders made it easier for them to carry more responsibility within the group.
We like to start the year with this wānanga to get our leadership team together, for them to set their goals for the year. We wanted to continue on from the improvements we made in 2019 with our physical challenges alongside setting group and personal goals and resetting their own ground rules. Unfortunately we were unable to secure a set of bikes we had in 2019.
2020 sees an almost new line up of Titirei in He Waka Kōtuia as our Year 13 girls and boys, who held these leadership roles previously have all left school. The expectation for leadership of your peers as a rakatahi can be a daunting prospect but all of our Titirei for 2020 were up to the challenge.
We incorporate leadership into all of the rangatahi kaupapa that we coordinate. Our identified Titirei are given numerous opportunities through Takere, Tira Tū, Waewae Kai Pakiaka, and Ka Hao te Rakatahi to work with each other in pairs, to work with individuals and groups to lead, to advise, and to guide.
