We were privileged to be invited to help support Te Rūnanga o Ōtākou as they hosted the Ngāi Tahu commemorations for Te Rā o Waitangi, Waitangi Day. Tutors had specific roles either Paulette in her role as tribal member was in charge of the cultural aspects of the day, Komene had a role in coordination and Cherie and Angelina were in charge of manaakitanga in the Hākuiao, the wharekai.

The group itself was asked to support the pōwhiri, performing haka pōwhiri and waiata in the pōwhiri, general jobs around the complex and then to close the festival with a performance. Ōtākou hosted over 800 people and put on a fantastic day to commemorate the signing of the Treaty in Waitangi in 1840.
