Every year we like to start the year in a fun way with a trip to the beach. The 'Rā Aukaha' is our yearly team building or ‘whakawhanaungatanga’ day. We take registrations at the beginning of the year and everyone is invited to attend. We have built on this over time and come up with a programme that meets our goals.
The rangatahi were split into four groups, led by a male and female Titirei and spent an hour at each activity with a decent lunch in-between. This was a great opportunity for new members to get to know each other and to get to know the senior members and adults in a fun environment, doing fun Māori activities in the sun. It was also a great way to introduce the health and fitness aspect of He Waka Kōtuia. The activities are, Waka Ama, Mau Rākau, Kī-o-Rahi and Haka. We have facilitators to run the activities with the Titirei facilitating the Haka session. This is another opportunity for our Titirei, our leadership team, to lead from the front.
