The last post on March 15 celebrated our young people making a stand against climate change. Tragically on that same day two mosques in Christchurch were attacked taking the lives of 51 men, women and children and injuring 40 more. Communities all around the country stood in solidarity with families of those who affected. In Dunedin this was felt keenly as the gunman lived in Dunedin and had planned an attack on the Dunedin mosque that never eventuated.
In cities all across Aotearoa, people gathered outside mosques to stand guard, to offer protection and to offer love and support. Our kapa, led by trustees Paulette and Cherie, stood outside the mosque in Dunedin to honour the fallen and to offer our thoughts of hope and strength to the people who worship there. That evening at the stadium there was another vigil held to denounce the racism that led to this grievous event.
