Kura Reo Titirei ki Kaikoura - 20-25 January 2020

This was a five-day programme led by KMK and supported by HWK. 25 rakatahi all versed in te reo Māori from Ō-Tautahi, Te Tai Poutini and Ōtepōti descended on the Takahanga Marae in Kaikoura for a programme that focussed on reconnecting our rakatahi to their environment and the migration stories of old. The 40 Rakatahi of Kāi Tahu descent participated in the following activities:

· Whakawhanaungatanga games

· Mau Rākau/Āriki

· Haka and Waiata

· Whakapapa

· Pig Hunting

· Whale Watching

· Boat tour to Kura Te Au

We were also very fortunate to have local support from the Maurice and Rawiri Manawatū. Local expert knowledge that helps to give a greater depth and physical connection through the environment to the history and stories that are being learnt. At every Kura Reo the skits are becoming more and more elaborate as the rakatahi find new ways of telling the old stories in order for them to learn them.
